How I Help

Counselling & Psychotherapy

You don’t have to cope on your own. My aim is to help you to understand yourself better to make changes.

The relationship between therapist and client is very important and an initial appointment will give you an opportunity to talk openly about your concerns and emotions and a chance to experience how we might work together. People come to see me for many different reasons including anxiety and stress; depression; bereavement and separation; eating disorders; relationship difficulties; self harm; sex and gender challenges.

What you choose to talk about will be heard in confidence and you will be free to talk safely without fear of judgement or blame. I am professional, supportive and empathetic although I will challenge you when appropriate or necessary in order to help you gain insight and to support change.

Working together

I offer two alternative approaches:

Short-term therapy of 16 sessions, agreeing on a specific goal to work towards at the outset with subsequent weekly sessions of 50 minutes.

Long-term open ended therapy to allow for themes to emerge and to help you understand how your past may be impacting your future. The duration of the therapy can be discussed.

Once work begins we will meet weekly face to face for 50 minutes on the same day, at the same time and place.

Fees

Fees are agreed before we start working together.

My fees range from £50-£75 per 50 minute session.

I offer a number of reduced fee sessions for students and individuals who may be retired or on low incomes.

Coaching

Sometimes things at work, home or life generally can feel too much and you might be feeling ‘stuck’. Coaching can help you to change a small or big aspect of your life or career or support you to achieve your goals.

My Coaching style usually works through a mixture of specific exercises. This allows you to have different perspectives and the tools to explore different ways of behaving or thinking.

I work with you collaboratively to challenge and guide you to explore new ideas and solutions. My aim is to support you to gain clarity and to set goals to help you realise your potential.

With a natural desire to make connections with others, I am often willing, with your permission, to share my ideas, experience, and learning to offer insights where relevant or appropriate.

Coaching can help with issues such as career planning, personal development, performance and effectiveness, promotions, redundancy and retirement and work life balance.
